In 2013, MTS increased number of base stations by 13% due to 3G and LTE

The mobile operator MTS has announced the installation of about 10 thousand new base stations throughout Russia during 2013 and an increase in their total number to 78,000.

From the words of the operator, its network of second and third generations cover 98% of the populated territory of Russia. 55% of the stations provide 3G data rates up to 42 Mbit / s. Other base station "third generation" work on HSPA + technology with a maximum speed of 21 Mbit / s.

LTE network launched in 13 regions of the country. Internet access at speeds up to 100 megabits per second available to residents of Moscow and Moscow region, Tambov in settlements, Amur, Rostov and Kaluga regions, Trans-Baikal Territory, Kirov region, the Republic of Udmurtia, the Republic of North Ossetia, Pskov and Novosibirsk regions.

In 2013, MTS completed the project to transfer all the base stations to IP-technology through the organization of radio relay channels based on IP and connect to optical links. This will, as the company said, to expand capacity and to work steadily in the face of ever increasing volumes of data.

During the year the number of mobile Internet users increased by four percentage points and exceeded 43% of the total number of MTS. The daily volume of data transmitted through the most widespread technology 3G, increased from 2600 to 4300 terabytes per day. The total volume consumed MTS subscribers of Internet traffic increased compared with 2012 twice.

By the end of 2013 FOCL length in Russian regions increased to 145,000 kilometers. In Moscow, the operator is actively developing transport infrastructure project MGTS GPON: in 2013, the length of optical communication lines reached 25,000 kilometers. The Network provides a digital television signal and home internet at speeds up to 1 Gbit / s over two million apartments in Moscow.

In parallel with the development of an external base station network, MTS has integrated more than 1500 devices point better reception cellular repeaters and indoor-making. These projects are relevant to corporate and private clients in homes or offices that are difficult passage of cellular signal due to terrain features spontaneous development, the use of metallic materials in the decoration and construction of buildings. Since December 2013, MTS began selling individual base stations in the retail network.
