Earlier today we told you that Samsung (and in an odd move, also SK Hynix) officially announced that it has successfully developed the world’s first 8Gb LPDDR4 mobile DRAM chip. Manufactured in the 20nm process technology, 4 of these chips can be combined for a total of 4GB of LPDDR4 memory, offering double the performance of the LDDR3 memory that is currently being mass produced, and consuming 40% less power, at 1.1 Volts.
Everything sounds good, but you might be asking when we’ll see this kind of memory on the market and which one of Sasmung’s future flagships might pack 4GB of LPDDR4 (the title of this article already gave that up, but let’s roll with it).

According to the Korean Media, the first Samsung smartphone to take advantage of the new LDDR4 memory is non other than the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S5.
You might be thinking that the LPDDR4 memory, being just announced, won’t be making it in time for Galaxy S5′s launch, but as we’ve discovered [see the UPDATE at the bottom of the article], Samsung is ready to begin mass production in “early 2014“.
Now, we don’t know the exact Samsung Galaxy S5 release date, but rumor has it that the smartphone will be launched sometime in the March-April timeframe, so the manufacturer might have just enough time to make the move.
If we take a look at how last year’s events played out, Samsung announced its new 3GB LPDDR3 module at the end of July, and managed to make it a part of Galaxy Note 3′s hardware which has been released two months later, at the end of September. Of course, the Galaxy S5 will sell in mich higher numbers that the Note 3 has, but at least things look fesible enough so that we can hope for a Galaxy S5 with 4GB of LPDDR4. What do you think?
