Samsung readies 4GB DDR4 mobile DRAM. Galaxy S5 the first in line to get it?

Now, most of you would think that 3GB RAM on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is an overkill, but clearly, engineers at Samsung beg to differ. The company has readied world’s first 8Gb (1GB) DDR4 mobile DRAM. Fabricated on a 20nm process, it offers 1GB on a single die, the highest density till date. Stack four of them together, and Samsung would be shipping smartphones, tablets and what not, with 4GB RAM.
That’s not all though, the LPDDR4 standard is 50 percent faster than your current LPDDR3 and consumes 40 percent less energy at 1.1 volts. Based on the new Low Voltage Swing Terminated Logic (LVSTL) I/O interface, LPDDR4 will offer a data transfer rate per pin of 3,200 megabits per second (Mbps) which is double of today’s standards. We’re expecting devices with these memory units to start showing up next year. Also, we can assume that rumorland is soon going to be alive with talks about Galaxy S5 becoming the first phone to get 4GB RAM. But of course, that remains to be seen.
