Microsoft sets Build 2014 conference for 2 April - is Windows Phone 8.1 incoming?

Microsoft revealed on Thursday that it will be holding the Build 2014 developer conference from 2 to 4 April. The website posting has since been taken down after an apparent slip, and Microsoft won't provide any more information about the dates. However, we still managed to gather a few key details.

The Build developer conference will be in San Francisco next year. Developers will be able to register beginning 12pm ET on 14 January.

While it has plenty of sessions for developers, our main interest in the Build conference surrounds product announcements. Last year, Microsoft introduced Windows 8.1 and improvements to Bing during the event.

With Microsoft rumoured to be introducing the Surface "mini", Windows Phone 8.1, and updates to Windows 8.1 and Xbox One, it could be one packed show. Additionally, we'll probably hear more about Nokia's device role within Microsoft, given the acquisition will be finished sometime in the first quarter of 2014.

Windows Phone 8.1 is rumoured to include a notification centre, changes to multitasking and a Siri-like "Cortana" personal voice assistant.

We'll be tracking the latest from Microsoft in our dedicated hub.
