Samsung Elec. unveils ‘466’ sales strategy for next year

Samsung Electronics set its 2014 sales target of smartphones at 400 million units, tablets at 65 million units and flat TVs at 60 million units.

South Korea’s electronics giant will unveil its 2014 business target to overseas corporate bodies’ employees at ‘global strategy meeting’ to be held at Suwon and Giheung from December 17 to 20. The global strategy meeting is attended by 500 employees at CE (consumer electronics) and IM (IT& mobile communication) divisions and 150 employees at DS (device solution) division and designed to explore market condition and finalize next year’s business aims.

Capitalizing on upcoming major sports events including the Winter Olympics and World Cup Games, Samsung aims to increase flat TV sales by five million units from this year and smart phone sales by 29 to 30 percent from 320 million units this year, widening gap between the second best player.

The manufacture also set the goal of overtaking Apple to take the crown in the Tablet PC market by selling 65 million units next year. If this is realized, Samsung Electronics’ overall sales and operating profit will likely jump to around 145.5 trillion won and 24.6 trillion won next year, each, from 137.6 trillion won and 25.9 trillion won in 2013.

Some insiders worry this is a seemingly unachievable sales target because of unfavorable market condition, but considering the past two-year’s feat made by Samsung, the target is never an impossible work. An official at Samsung noted, “Samsung rose to the world’s unrivaled position by dominating both set and components areas,” adding “with no visible latecomers that can rival Samsung in sight, we’ll be able to keep our market presence and profitability at the current high level.”
