Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of the Samsung’s mobile business, told Bloomberg in an interview today that the Galaxy S5 would launch sometime in April. Well, that’s not the only thing he told the publication – Lee also mentioned that the Galaxy Note 4 could feature a “three-sided display” when it launches later this year, so that “messages can be read from an angle,” with the device aimed at the extremely high-end segment. “We are targeting consumers who want more professional use and tend to be willing to pay more for handsets,” Lee said.
Samsung has showcased such displays before (see the video below), and it looks like the tech might be ready by the second half of 2014 and make its way to the company’s next flagship phablet. It remains to be seen if the display will be flexible as well, though if Samsung can make enough units of three-sided displays to put them on a mainstream device by the end of 2014, we can safely assume they’ll be able to do the same with flexible displays as well.
