2013 was an exciting year for Nokia fans, with some of the most innovation-packed smartphones and devices we’ve ever announced.
Throughout the year, Nokia revealed a great balance of affordable handsets and feature-packed high-end smartphones, along with the first Nokia Lumia tablet.
The year kicked off for the Lumia range in Barcelona during February, at Mobile World Congress. Nokia launched both the Lumia 520 and the Lumia 720 at the event, offering style, performance and features with an affordable price tag.
The Lumia 520 has a super-sensitive 4-inch screen, making it possible to use even when you’re wearing gloves, and features like HERE Maps and Nokia MixRadio make it a perfect all-rounder for people on a budget. The Lumia 720 was praised for an impressive ZEISS camera with a 6.7-megapixel sensor, a 4.3-inch ClearBlack display and there’s even support for wireless charging.
The Nokia Lumia 925 was the next smartphone to make an appearance, and was announced in London in May. Nokia’s high-end handset features a completely fresh design, combining polycarbonate, glass and metal to great effect. Introducing Nokia Smart Camera for great motion focused pictures, the Lumia 925 features a 4.5-inch screen, an 8.7-megapixel camera, and now with the latest updates Nokia Camera, making it a great choice for aspiring photographers.
July saw one of the biggest new arrivals to the Lumia range, however, with the introduction of the Nokia Lumia 1020, a powerful smartphone with a camera like no other. The Lumia 1020 sets new standards when it comes to smartphone photography, with a staggering 41-megapixel PureView camera, ZEISS optics and optical image stabilisation and the innovative Nokia Camera app.
The Lumia 1020 set the benchmark for smartphone photography with the ideal blend of hardware and software making it possible to take better photographs.
The summer wasn’t just a time for high-end handsets, and the Nokia Lumia 625 made its first appearance in late July. An affordable smartphone with a large 4.7-inch display, the Lumia 625 brings 4G connectivity to the masses. As with other Lumia smartphones, there’s a great range of pre-installed software included, with HERE Maps and HERE Drive, Microsoft Office and MixRadio included.
Nokia ended 2013 on a high at Nokia World, where three new Lumia devices, together with a host of new apps and experiences, were announced. The Lumia 1320 and Lumia 1520 brought the Windows Phone experience and signature Lumia design to 6-inch screens. The Lumia 1520 features a stunning 6-inch 1080p Full HD display, a 20-megapixel PureView camera and the latest Nokia Storyteller app. Its little brother, the Lumia 1320, packs in a 6-inch 720p HD display and a wealth of features at a lower price.
The Lumia 1320 and Lumia 1520 are an ideal blend of smartphone and tablet, and are perfect for reading ebooks, websites or watching movies on the move. Coupled with sat-nav applications like HERE Drive, there’s a lot to like about these large screen smartphones.
The Lumia 2520 was the final product to launch in 2013, making an appearance alongside the Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320 at Nokia World in Abu Dhabi. The Lumia 2520 is the first tablet in the Lumia range, and brings a class-leading camera, one of the brightest displays on the market, and features such as integrated HERE mapping and Nokia’s signature polycarbonate design.
The Lumia 2520 is also a great choice when it comes to creating content, thanks to the matchingkeyboard/protective case. The keyboard adds its own battery and USB ports, turning the Lumia 2520 into a device that allows users to get things done, no matter where they are.
